Install a Grillo Pulse

A seismic sensor must be rigidly coupled to a stable part of the ground or structure. Site quality often matters more than small differences in sensor specification.

Choose the site

Prefer a location that is:

  • On a concrete slab, bedrock, or another stiff structural element
  • At or near ground level
  • Away from machinery, pumps, HVAC equipment, doors, roads, and foot traffic
  • Protected from flooding, standing water, impact, tampering, and cable strain
  • Accessible for maintenance
  • Suitable for the required cellular, Ethernet, and positioning antennas

Record unavoidable sources of environmental noise.

Prepare before mounting

  1. Complete the Pulse Quick Start.
  2. Confirm the Device ID is claimed in the correct network.
  3. Record and photograph external labels.
  4. Confirm mounting hardware is suitable for the surface.
  5. Review the supplied enclosure, cable, and weatherproofing instructions.
  6. Disconnect power before installation work.

Mount and orient

The geophone measures vertical motion, so the enclosure must be installed in the marked upright orientation and levelled using the supplied reference marks.

  • Clean loose material from the mounting surface.
  • Fasten the mount so it cannot rock, slide, or rotate.
  • Use a level on the reference surface shown in the installation drawing.
  • Do not infer orientation from a connector or cable entry.
  • Route cables with strain relief and a drip loop where appropriate.
  • Keep antenna cables within their bend and weatherproofing limits.

Power and weatherproofing

  • Use only the supplied power adapter and barrel jack.
  • Do not power the sensor through a service port.
  • Do not open or modify the enclosure unless the supplied procedure requires it.
  • Inspect seals, cable entries, and strain relief before applying power.
  • Ensure cables cannot collect or direct water into the enclosure.

Final acceptance

Before leaving the site:

  1. Confirm the sensor is secure, upright, and level.
  2. Record coordinates, elevation, orientation, mounting method, antenna placement, and photographs.
  3. Update location metadata in Platform.
  4. Confirm Online status and a current Last seen value.
  5. Confirm the expected connection type.

If these checks cannot be completed, treat the installation as incomplete.
